No Mother Should Labor Alone.
A trained doula beside every mother who wants one — steady, informed, and loving support before, during, and after birth.
What a Doula Does — and Why It Changes Everything.
A doula is a trained companion who provides continuous physical, emotional, and informational support through pregnancy, birth, and the tender days after. She doesn’t replace your midwife or physician — she walks beside you, so no question goes unanswered and no mother ever feels alone.
Lower cesarean rates with continuous doula support (Cochrane review, 2017).
Fewer interventions and more positive, empowered birth experiences.
The year Michigan Medicaid began covering doula care — a milestone reflecting the strength of the research.
Doula support is one of the most effective, lowest-cost ways to improve birth outcomes — which is exactly why it sits at the very center of our mission.
A Doula for Every Mother Who Wants One.
That is our promise and our commitment. Through our Care Access Fund, we’re working toward the day cost never keeps a mother from having a doula by her side.
Doulas From the Communities That Need Them Most.
The mothers facing the hardest outcomes are best served by doulas who share their neighborhood, their language, and their story. The research consistently points to community-based doulas as one of the most effective ways to close the gap in maternal and infant health — the very gap we see in Kalamazoo and Battle Creek.
Our goal, as churches and supporters come alongside us: to recruit women from the communities of greatest need, pay for their training and certification, and send them home to serve their own neighbors — a doula for every mother, delivered by women those mothers already know and trust.
It’s how we turn a statistic into a sisterhood. And it’s a goal we can only reach together.
Meet the Women Who Walk Beside You.
Our doulas see this work as a calling, not a job — trained, compassionate women who show up with skill and steadiness. Here’s our growing team, and there’s room for you.

Sarah Colwell
Sarah brings both structure and heart — leading a team devoted to faith-filled, personalized care, and helping our board operate with integrity and transparency. Grounded in faith and a passion for mothers, she stewards the vision behind everything we do.

Jessica Scheffers
A student midwife and doula with a calm, steady presence that brings both strength and softness. A wife and mother herself, Jessica leads with lived experience, deep empathy, and a faith that shows up in the way she loves and serves.

Timmayia Devoe
Ms. Timmie brings a steady, compassionate spirit to every family — meeting people in both joy and grief with equal care, and carrying a special heart for those who’ve experienced loss. A Michigan Medicaid-approved doula, wife, and mother, she serves with tenderness and a strong sense of calling.

Carmen Morren
A doula rooted in birth and family care, Carmen is also the creative voice behind how we connect with families. With an eye for storytelling and a heart shaped by faith, grace, and intention, she helps people feel connected, informed, and truly seen.

Elizabeth Peterson
I’m a Jesus-loving birth worker who believes every childbearing year is a sacred, once-in-a-lifetime season. My calling began when I was 16, and I’ve studied home birth, doula care and childbirth education since then. I’m drawn to physiological, undisturbed birth, and I come alongside families as a witness and support, led by the Holy Spirit. I recently completed Hearthmother Journey, a year-long, Christ-centered program in childbearing and birthkeeping.

Sara Wilson
Sara is a dedicated birth doula who walks alongside mothers through pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. Her own first pregnancy left her anxious and without an advocate, and her birth was traumatic. Her son is now a thriving six-year-old, and that experience shaped her mission: to be the advocate and guide she wished she had, whether a family is on their first pregnancy or their fifth.
